Abstract : In this paper we study the « self-quotation » in Latin, that is to say, when the speaker does not only say something, but also asserts his speech as reported by himself. We analyse the dico- and aio-sentences, we propose a comparative study of these structures from ancient Latin texts to neo-classical Latin texts. Our work is based on a morpho-syntactic and pragmatic approach and does not only consider the quoting speech, but also the quoted
speech.
